I'm Norman and I've been working in local tourism for a solid ten years now
I’m Sandrine. Born in 1974, I’ve been living in Bayeux, Normandy, with my husband and two teenage daughters for the past 18 years, along with our two pets – a cat and a dog.
I got my degree in foreign languages from the University of Caen, Normandy, and then I enrolled in the Teacher Training School, also in Caen. Then I spent 15 years teaching in primary schools in Calvados, which allowed me to discover places in my own region that I wasn’t familiar with. Teaching was okay, but not really my thing. So, I decided to switch gears and pursue my passion for tourism.
Over the last decade, I’ve worked for two local tour companies in Bayeux, learning a ton about the area’s tourism scene. But the D-Day landing beaches and Bayeux aren’t the only highlights – there are plenty of other interesting places nearby :
- Mont-Saint-Michel is a must-see, of course.
- You’ve also got cities like Caen, Deauville/Trouville, Honfleur which are worth checking out.
- And don’t forget about the charming villages scattered throughout the Normandy countryside, with their quaint houses and local delicacies !
I’ve always been a keen traveler. I was fortunate to have adventurous parents who took me to explore numerous countries from the age of 11 (before that, as a young child, it was camping in Cap d’Agde, Southern France, which I thoroughly enjoyed, by the way !).
As a young adult, with the education system offering a generous four months of vacation per year (yes, not bad at all !), I had ample time to continue my journeys. Among the countries I’ve visited are Tunisia, Morocco, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Madeira, England, Italy, the Czech Republic, Turkey, Egypt, Senegal, Togo, Kenya, Mauritius, Réunion Island, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, the United States, Canada/Quebec, and China.
I’ve always been fond of authentic tourism, enjoying the opportunity to meet locals. I prefer to navigate solo once on site at my destination and utilize local modes of transportation rather than organized tours. But of course, everyone has their own idea of what makes the perfect travel experience.
However, organizing my own trips was very time-consuming, especially back then when we didn’t have the internet. However, today, despite having access to a wealth of online information, it doesn’t always simplify the task… It still requires searching, filtering and selecting which also takes up a considerable amount of time.
That’s why I decided to create this travel guide – to share my insider knowledge of Normandy and help others navigate through the overwhelming amount of information out there.
So, stick around if you’re interested and let’s explore together !
MY PROJECT
My project took more than a year of intense work.
I dedicated time to complete a training program to develop my own website and wrote all the content in English despite it is not my first language. But I wanted to maintain authenticity and a personal touch in my writing.
A website design specialist helped me (special thanks to you Stéphane !) and also ensured the security of this site is optimal.
I hope my e-travel guide will prove useful to tourists interested in exploring Normandy, particularly around Bayeux and the D-Day landing beaches.
And please, do not hesitate to send me messages to tell me how my guide was useful… (or not), it will help me improve it :
