The Cider Route in Pays d'Auge

A 40-km (25 miles) signposted route
Many very beautiful places can be discovered along the « Cider Route » and I will give you my advice to enjoy this beautiful part of Normandy.
You can even decide to stay in a lovely guesthouse typical of Normandy for one night or more and the time to explore the area.

To have an idea of what you can see along the Cider Route, watch this video on YouTube (click on the link below) :
« La route du cidre Beuvron en Auge, Cambremer » by Christian Bruynooghe.

The most famous places in the Pays d’Auge are of course Cabourg, Houlgate, Deauville, Trouville-sur-Mer, Honfleur… and this is where the Pays d’Auge begins in the north but it extends up to 75 kilometers further South.
If the coastline is the most visited part of this area, the countryside is also worth exploring and the best way is with your own car so you can discover the most beautiful villages of the region, Norman manors, castles, half-timbered houses and charming small country churches.
I also suggest some easy hikes to make the most of these wonderful landscapes.
You will discover authentic Normandy !

What is the Cider Route ?

  • The « Cider Route » at the East of Caen is a signed tourist route through the typical countryside of the area linking the villages of Beuvron en Auge, Beaufour-Druval , Bonnebosq, and Cambremer via picturesque little roads ( true that some roads are VERY narrow so drive very slowly!) : a picture postcard landscape !
  • This route links about 20 local producers of cider / cavados easily recognizable by the signpost « Cru de Cambremer* ».
  • I will give you my selection of local cider producers but you can go and visit some others of course : I will just give you my preferences and those I know.

* What is the « Cru de Cambremer » ?
– Cider-makers compete annually and those selected display the sign « Cru de Cambremer » on the roadside at the entrance of their farm.
– You are always welcome to visit these farms to learn the making of cider and calvados and taste their products but many of them only speak French.
– The domains that I recommend can welcome you in English.
– The label « Cidre ( =cider) de Cambremer – A.O.C Pays d’Auge » is for you a guarantee of origin and quality.

MY GOOD TIP
Some farms and interesting sites are located a little outside the cider road, so I advise you to go to the Tourist Office in Beuvon en Auge or Cambremer and ask for the road map of the Cider Route and the area.
That will be very helpful.

What beautiful sites to discover along the cider route ?

I have selected for you in my suggested itinerary some typical and charming places (villages, countryside small churches, local producers…) where tourists don’t always go because they concentrate most of their visits on the coast and just in Beuvron en Auge, which is a pity !
Some sites are very nice but very touristic (like Beuvron en Auge) while others are much less visited (and not less beautiful) from the moment you decide to take small country roads : it’s true that some roads are very narrow and you may think you’re in the middle of nowhere, but it’s really worth it because it’s AUTHENTIC !
