THIS CASTLE IS A UNIQUE EXAMPLE IN NORMANDY STILL VISIBLE TODAY OF A SMALL RURAL CASTLE, SEAT OF LOCAL LORDS IN THE MIDDLE AGES.
– This former fortified castle dates from the 11th and 12th centuries and was deeply restored in the early 1970s by the Schlumberger family.
– This family decided to create here a museum retracing the work of Conrad and Marcel Schlumberger who at the beginning of the 20th century invented an innovative oil propecting technique.
– During the visit, you will discover life in the Middle Ages : the lower courtyard has a group of half-timbered buildings including a farm, dovecote and barn dating from the 15th and 16th centuries, where the peasant lived and worked.
Near the 12th century chapel, the upper courtyard, on its fortified mound, is protected by its moat and wall. Here is the 15th century manor house where the lord used to live.
– The Schlumberger Museum displays an exceptional collection of industrial objects dating from 1910 to 1980 linked to oil prospecting.
– The museum also proposes an immersive journey through « My life as an engineer », an interactive way to discover technological innovations.
