Option 1 : a guided tour with a private guide

A 1,5-hour private tour of historical Honfleur.
A very good option if you want to discover the history of the city with a passionate guide without being with a large group of tourists.
You can book a private guide at the Office of Tourism of Honfleur for a 1,5-hour tour and travel back 1000 years… Let yourself tell the amazing history of the city by discovering its monuments through pretty cobbled streets.

How can you reserve a private guide in Honfleur through the Tourist Office ?

  • Send an email saying how many people there will be for the guided tour and the language required (available in French, English, German and Spanish) :

  • From 1 up to 30 people.
  • Rate for a private guide (1,5 hr tour) from 1 up to 30 people : between 160 and 250 euros (depending on the day and the type of visit).

Prices are indicated for the whole group and not per person : this means that you will pay the same price if you are alone or a party of 30.

Option 2 : LegendR Mobile App

Immerse yourself in the history of Honfleur thanks to the LegendR mobile application : a fun and educational way to visit Honfleur both for children and adults !

– Available at the Office of Tourism of Honfleur, in French and English.
– Duration of the tour : 1hr to 1hr30min

  • First, you download on your mobile the free application LegendR.
  • Then, at the Office of Tourism (Quai Lepaulmier in Honfleur), you buy an access code to the virtual tour (€5 for the whole family) and virtual reality glasses (€2 for one virtual box : I advise one box for 2 people. You can watch the videos as many times as you want but if you are too many with the same virtual box it will take more time…

  • Explore Honfleur’s 15th-century fortified past with this digital tour, available since July 2021. Based on my experience, I highly recommend it ; I tried it with my daughter when she was 13 and we both thoroughly enjoyed it !
  • Despite some difficulties I must admit at the beginning to download the application and the content (it takes some time…), we enjoyed a lot this city tour with virtual reality glasses : you place your mobile phone in the « virtual box » and then you start the tour next to the Office of Tourism following the itinerary instructions:  you will visualize the military citadel surrounded by ramparts as they existed in the past, the Porte de Rouen, the ancestor of the Vieux Bassin, the commercial port, as well as other places of interest.
  • You will also be suggested to visit some museums during the tour.
  • The historical content (you have some reading and 4 virtual videos)  is clear and well condensed in order to have a good overall view of the city’s history (this is not an in-depth visit).
  • There are also fun games (for instance, you can virtually create your own emblem).

Recommended with children and teenagers but also adults if you want to learn a little about the history of Honfleur.

Option 3 : Audioguides

Audioguides are available at the Office of Tourism of Honfleur : an excellent option if you want to discover the main historic places of the city at your own pace.
IMPORTANT : you must book them in advance during the high season.

15 commentaries to wander for 1hr30 in the city / but you can keep the audioguide for 3 hours so you can take your time.
You will discover the secrets of the Lieutenance, the Vieux Bassin, Saint Leonard, Sainte-Catherine church…

Option 4 : With an electric bike

With HoBike, you can rent an electric bike for a half-day or a full-day and discover Honfleur and its surroundings easily.
A day-itinerary from the city center to the chapel Notre-Dame de Grâce and the Normandy outlet will be suggested to you.

  • Identity card and a deposit by credit card or cash are required.
  • Basket, anti-theft, helmet are supplied.
  • Autonomy : 100 kms.
  • 6 euros half-day / 11 euros full-day.

Option 5 : Explore the Seine estuary by boat

Enjoy the Seine estuary aboard the ship « Aventura » : a 1,5-hour commented tour in French and English by the Captain and his team. An interesting way to discover Honfleur and the surroundings from the sea !

  • During the excursion, you will :
    – Pass under the Normandy bridge !
    – See the commercial port, the quays of the Seine, view the Tancarville bridge, Le Havre, the natural reserve, Butin beach, Vasouy, Pennedepie and the heights of Honfleur. 
  • Departure 7/7 from April to November at 10:30am, 11:30am, 2:30pm and 4:30pm.
